If you are looking for £5 meals to feed the family, or cheap and healthy dinners for under £5, or ways to feed your family for £5, then this is the post for you!
I've embarked on a mission that I'm really excited about. I've challenged myself to create family meals that are not only delicious but also budget-friendly, costing no more than £5 for all the main ingredients.
With the cost of living crisis at the moment, we are having to be more thrifty than ever, so creating recipes that are not only cheap, but also delicious is a challenge we can all benefit from.
And to make it even more interesting, I'm exploring all the leading UK supermarkets, next up Lidl with my Creamy Bacon & Mushroom Spaghetti and Garlic Bread.
The best part of this adventure is that there are no set rules on cuisine or dietary restrictions. I'm all about variety and trying out different recipes, so we're in for a culinary journey.
Hopefully, we can all discover some fantastic, cost-effective family meal ideas together.
Stay tuned for updates on my thrifty food adventures, and let's see how creative we can get with that £5 budget!
Lidl is considered one of the cheaper supermarkets, so I knew this one would be a lot easier.
Now I am including a couple of items that you should already have in your cupboards at home, such as stock, salt, pepper etc.
Creamy Bacon & Mushroom Spaghetti and Garlic Bread
Total cost £4.97
This is a super tasty pasta dish which is so easy to prepare.
It's really simple to make too.
Chestnut mushrooms
Smoked back bacon
Mozerella ball
Cream cheese
Spaghetti
Garlic bread
Ingredients from the cupboard:
Salt and pepper
Low calorie cooking spray
Instructions:
Dice the bacon and mushrooms.
Spray a pan (preferably a metal skillet which can go on the oven too) with low calorie cooking spray and add the bacon and mushrooms and fry off until bacon is crispy.
Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti as per the pack instructions, keeping back the pasta water.
Add the cream cheese to the bacon and mushrooms and stir to melt.
Once the pasta is cooked, add a generous amount of the pasta water to the mushrooms, bacon and cream cheese. Mix to combine and form the sauce.
Cook the garlic bread as per the pack instructions.
Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and mix well.
Break up the mozerella ball and add on top, then add to the oven to melt.
